PRLog -- First Baptist Church of Vienna, the oldest church in Vienna, VA will host its Annual Homecoming, Friends and Family Weekend Affair on August 15-16, 2015. This two day event will kick off on Saturday, August 15
th with its Family Matters Conference beginning at 9:00 a.m. Roland Martin, TV One Anchor, will facilitate a session based on the conference theme “Rekindling the Flame Reengaging the Village.” Mr. Martin, no stranger to controversy, will help facilitate the discussion on how families, the Black family in particular, can take back our communities, involve individuals in citizenry, and command respect from others as well as from ourselves. The Rev. Steven Carter, pastor of Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York and author of
Resurrection from Rejection will also speak to those in attendance on how to rise above one’s situation in life while reengaging the village. “In this day and time, I feel a personal responsibility as pastor of First Baptist Church, to address those things that impact our church family as well as the community in which we serve,” stated Rev. Dr. Vernon C. Walton. “I cannot be silent on the recent occurrences of the untimely, unnecessary death of our young Black boys and men. I cannot be silent as Black congregations in the south are being forced to deal with fear while worshipping in the Holy sanctuary of God’s house. I will start with First Baptist, as we continue to extend ourselves to those within our circle of influence and God will do the rest.”
On Sunday, August 16, 2015, First Baptist will continue the weekend affair of celebration as it welcomes back home friends and family members to the Annual Homecoming Service at 9:45 a.m. (summer worship hours). “This is a time for past, present, and future members of First Baptist to come together in the worship experience,”
said Walton. “Since I am still in my infancy as pastor, being at FBCV about a year and half, I am looking forward to meeting my extended family as well.” A Family BBQ will immediately follow the service.
Church members, family, friends, and the community are invited to attend this amazing and hopefully, miraculous weekend of events. First Baptist Church of Vienna is located at 450 Orchard Street, NW, Vienna, VA.
