A busy September is in the works for recent Guggenheim Fellowship Award recipient Jamie Baum and her Septet+, who will swing by Scullers by way of Portland, ME (Jazz Expansions), en route to Brattleboro, VT (Vermont Jazz Center) and Lake George, NY (Jazz Festival). She will be joined by her current "little big band" which includes special guest, Boston's Jason Palmer (trumpet), along with Sam Sadigursky (alto sax/bass clarinet), Chris Komer (French horn), Brad Shepik (guitar), John Escreet (piano), Matt Clohesy (bass), and Jeff Hirshfield (drums).

For Boston, Baum's repertoire will feature new compositions written specifically for her Guggenheim project, as well as music from her most recent award-winning recording "In This Life" (Sunnyside) which has received wide critical acclaim and was included in the "best of" lists in DownBeat, JazzTimes, ITunes, Rhapsody.com, Boston Globe and NPR's Jazz Critics Poll. The Jazz Journalists Association nominated The Jamie Baum Septet+ for "Best Midsize Ensemble” of 2014, along with the Wayne Shorter Quartet and Steve Coleman & Five Elements.

In her 16 years of composing for her "little big-band" configurations, Baum's musical collaborations encompass a wide range of musical styles including jazz, classical, "new music,” Indian and Latin. She selects specific bandmates, all impressive band-leaders in their own right, who not only assist her in realizing her ever-evolving compositional vision, but also contribute their own unique individual voice to that process. Her current players come from varied backgrounds and ages, and serve as a rich representation of the current New York scene.

NYC flutist/composer/recording artist/clinician Jamie Baum has toured the US, and over 28 countries performing at major festivals and concert halls including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Sedutirol, Braga, Oeiras, Bermuda, Edinburgh, Friehoffer, Winter JazzFest and JVC Festivals. She has performed with artists as renown and diverse as George Russell, Randy Brecker, Donald Brown, Mick Goodrick, Tom Harrell and Kenny Barron to Dave Douglas, Fred Hersch, Uri Caine, Ralph Alessi, Leni Stern, David Binney, V.M Bhatt, Anthony Braxton and Wadada Leo Smith. Baum has been listed in DownBeat Critics Polls annually since 1998, winning #4 in the 2015 Top Flutists category and # 1 Rising Star Flutist in 2012. She was nominated by the Jazz Journalists Association for “Flutist of the Year“ eight times, including 2015.

Since 2007, Baum has been on the faculty of the jazz department at Manhattan School of Music, as well serving on the adjunct faculty at New School University since 2004.
