Previously Derrell Lawrence brought you his sold-out performances of the stage play “Do You Trust Your Best Friend.” Due to overwhelming requests, he is excited to come back with his newest award winning “Inspirational”
stage play “Life Isn’t Fair” starring 4-time Grammy Award Winner Regina Belle, International actor John Canada Terrell (Boomerang, Five Heartbeats, She’s Gotta Have It, etc.), Emmy Nominee Actor Sean Blakemore (featured on daytime drama General Hospital), Lawrence (himself), and more. This powerfully emotional drama (adapted from the award winning film), shows life in “Real-Time”
of a man (or woman’s) struggle between good and evil, right and wrong and the role of “Will Power.” Lawrence says, “In Romans 7:21-22 of the Bible (NKJV) it states, ‘For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.’ I could not have explained the premise of this creation better.” Lawrence continues, “One might think it is easy to live and do right. However, for Ricky Jones, it’s been everything but.” Forced to deal with tragedy at a young age, and overcoming bad choices in his life, Jones understands who really has kept him. He wants to give his life to Christ, but also knows the devil is always at work and attacks at your weakest moments. Come out and be a witness as Jones struggles at the crossroads of God’s Child or Satan’s Angel (everyone’s battle).

FILMMAKER/PLAY WRITER/DIRECTOR/EXECUTIVE-PRODUCER/ACTORDerrell Lawrence is an American actor, filmmaker, writer, director, executive-producer and upcoming author. He is perhaps best known for his feature film debut, Life Isn’t Fair in 2007. Growing up in a drug and crime infested neighborhood in South Philadelphia-
PA, there weren’t many role models and positive images for Lawrence. After the death of his father early in his childhood, he experienced trouble of the worst kind hanging around the wrong people. Quickly realizing he was headed down a path of destructive Lawrence decided to point his life in a positive direction. Although, the entertainment industry was the furthest thing on his mind; a chance meeting with a casting director that mistook Lawrence for an actor provided an opportunity into door. The casting director immediately took photos of him and sent them to various agencies. Three days later, Lawrence was called into The Maryanne Claro Talent Agency and cast as an extra in the hit movie Fallen starring Denzel Washington. On set and truly overwhelmed when Washington himself came over and talked with him, Lawrence hung on every word he gave and appreciated the encouragement. Soon after, he was a featured extra in Beloved with Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover. Charged by the momentum of being on set with “Super Stars” Washington and Winfrey (in such a short time frame), Lawrence had all he needed to set his sights on something higher. During the mist of his transition tragedy struck again. Lawrence sister, Lakeesha was murdered. He admits, “I was in a dark place for a long time.” Thinking of his sister, Lawrence picked up a pen and pad and began to write what he was feeling. Before he knew it, he had written something so powerful and moving, he decided to turn it into a script, thus, and “Life Isn’t Fair” was born. Without knowing a thing about film making, he wrote the screenplay, directed it, produced it, and then featured himself. Lawrence’
s freshman project earned him several awards including: “The Highest Achievement for “New Filmmaker” at the Jokara-Micheaux Video and Film Festival in Georgia, as well as, both “The Silver Award” and “The People’s Choice Award” from the Philadelphia International Film Festival and Market. Next he produced film Happy Holidaze, and also performed in numerous independent films and stage plays. Lawrence’s hard work and dedication has also garnered him a coveted two week theatrical release at The Pearl Theater in Philadelphia, in addition to an international distribution deal for films. Most recently Lawrence has made appearances in the motion picture “Must Be the Music” (written and directed by Charles S. Dutton) and is co-starring in the independent film Gotta Make It Out. He has also been featured in national television commercials. Currently Lawrence has decided to take “Life Isn’t Fair” on the road after receiving rave reviews for his first stage play, “Do You Trust Your Best Friend.” The future, Lawrence says, “I am writing a book. After that only God knows, but whatever it is I know it will be from my heart. That’s the only way I know how to be.”
