Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter Has Summer Backpack Drive

DECATUR, Ga. - Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter conducted a Summer Backpack Drive in July and August in an effort to ensure children receives the supplies and backpacks needed to begin the school year. The Summer Backpack Drive is in support of one of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's international initiatives, One Million Backpack Drive. Lambda Epsilon Omega's goal for this initiative was to package and deliver 500 backpacks to students returning to school in the fall. Many students in the DeKalb County School System may not have the ability to start the school year with supplies needed. Lambda Epsilon Omega chapter set out to provide much needed supplies and backpacks to those local students.

Former Mayor of Lithonia and Lambda Epsilon Omega member, Marcia Glenn Hunter, managed this project for the chapter and hosted members at her home in the summer months of July and August. Member collected supplies and sorted and packaged each of the backpacks. The chapter exceeded its goal of delivering 500 backpacks and collected and delivered 504 backpacks to DeKalb County students, on three separate occasions, to three local schools - Cedar Grove Elementary School, Redan Middle School and Chapel Hill Middle School.

Lambda Epsilon Omega chapter is very involved in the local community and this is one of the initiatives to give back to the community. Education is important in the community and unfortunately many families cannot afford basic school supplies. It is important to do our part in supporting the education system by ensuring that each child receives the necessary resources and supplies.

Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the second oldest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Metro Atlanta.  Serving the community of DeKalb County since its chartering on June 26, 1976, Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter has grown from its original twenty-two charter members to a currently working membership of over three hundred and has successfully rendered “supreme service” to the DeKalb County community.
