San Diego Rescue Mission Celebrated an "Evening Under the Stars" with MRC

SAN DIEGO - Sept. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- The “Evening Under the Stars” was the first fundraising gala, expected to be an annual event, and was held on Friday, September 18^th. It was a great event that benefitted the San Diego Rescue Mission’s Nueva Vida Haven. The event was sponsored by MRC’s Women’s Empowerment Network.

The gala was held at the DoubleTree in San Diego. The event started with a red carpet photo and cocktail reception where guests had the opportunity to mingle and bid in the silent auction.  The cocktail reception was followed by dinner in the Gallery, an evening of dancing, and inspiring speeches from our guest speakers Tiffany Newby, Nueva Vida Haven graduate, and Angela Shartel, an Ultra Runner. The event featured Master of Ceremonies, CBS 8 News Anchor, Dan Cohen, who is an accomplished 3 time Emmy Award winner.

Net proceeds raised by the event benefit the San Diego Rescue Mission’s Nueva Vida Haven, the organization that provides emergency shelter to battered/homeless women and children of San Diego County, as well as provides a long term recovery program that arranges childcare and job training. These programs empower women, gives them a platform to grow and thrive, and fosters a sustainable lifestyle change.

The mission of this organization aligns perfectly with the Women’s Empowerment Network, an affinity group of MRC Smart Technology Solutions, which planned and executed the amazing event.

Two awards were presented during the event. The Women’s Empowerment Award, also known as the “Wenny,” was received by guest speakers Tiffany Newby and Angela Shartel for their tenacity and determination. Despite the difficulties that life presented each of them, they were both able to rise above their circumstances, and create a life that allowed them to prosper. The evening ended in celebration, with music spun by Magic 92.5’s DJ Shy.

The funds raised at the gala will help provide accommodations which will move the residents off the floor, expand the child daycare center, as well as provide items for day to day operations.
