ENGLEWOOD, N.J. - Oct. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- Tired of being let down by every lotion, potion, and too-good-to-be-true spa service you’ve tried in your search for a more youthful appearance? Hint: the secret to sensational skin isn’t buried inside a bottle—it’s inside you. Unleash it with Platelet Rich Plasma Rejuvenation.

This cutting-edge, professional treatment  harnesses the powerful healing and regenerative properties of your body’s own blood platelets—small fragments of cells that are critical in repair and healing—to reverse the ravages of time and provide an effective (and 100% natural) weapon in the war on aging. It’s like finding your very own fountain of youth!

We sat down with Dr. Rabkin to get the 411 on this beauty breakthrough.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is an injectable treatment that uses your body’s own blood platelets to reverse the signs of aging, restore or enhance facial volume, and improve skin texture and tone.  Platelets in your blood contain numerous Platelet Derived Growth Factors (PDGF) that stimulate proliferation of collagen, keratin, and blood vessels, in turn slowing or reversing the signs of aging.

How is it done?

A small sample of your own blood is drawn (just like in your family doctor’s office) and run through a centrifuge to extract its platelet rich plasma (PRP) and then safely injected into facial folds, wrinkles, and other areas where aged, damaged skin is present. This not only adds instant volume to sagging areas of the face (much like Juvederm or Restylane does), but also boosts your cells’ natural ability to heal and regenerate. The result is glowing, more youthful appearance.

What problem areas are appropriate for Platelet Rich Plasma Rejuvenation?

The healing properties of the blood components in PRP can be used as a cosmetic treatment for the following:

• Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
• Tightening and toning skin
• Mild collagen and facial volume loss
• Crow’s feet and dark under eye circles
• Acne scarring
• Hair Loss

Are the injections painful? What about recovery time?

Platelet Rich Plasma Rejuvenation injections are done gently and are virtually pain-free (numbing agents are optional for particularly pain-sensitive patients). While there is no downtime, some patients may experience redness, tenderness, or bruising around the injection site that can last for 2-3 days. You’re free to wear makeup, but skin should be protected from the sun.

How quickly will I see results? How long will they last?

Within a few weeks of treatment, you’ll see an overall improvement in skin hydration, texture and tone. New collagen and blood vessels begin to grow after three to six weeks, and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and volume correction happens over the next three to six months. The effects of cosmetic PRP typically last between 9 months to two years, depending on the individual.

How many treatments are needed?

For the best result, we recommend three treatments spaced 46 weeks apart.

Is it safe?

PRP treatments are extremely safe. Because PRP is produced from your own blood, there is no risk of an allergic reaction. In addition, PRP contains concentrated amount of white blood cells, your body’s natural defense against infections.

Can a PRP treatment be combined with other procedures?

Absolutely! PRP pairs well with filler and fat transfers and are often incorporated into collagen induction treatments (CIT) to immediately minimize fine lines and wrinkles, soften the appearance of scars and dark pigmentation, and boost sallow, damaged skin.

Does PRP have other uses also?

Yes. PRP treatments have recently been found to be effective in treating hair loss; however, individuals with skin disease porphyria, allergies, cancer, chemotherapy, severe metabolic or systemic disorders, blood disorders, and underlying sepsis are excluded from this procedure.
