Follow on Google News | Not Just A Simple Air Flow Logger, But The World’s Most Versatile Environmental Data LoggerA&D introduces an easy-to-mount device that is ideal for monitoring and recording low-velocity air flows of 0 to 1.00 m/s – together with temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and even vibration, all at the same time.
The AD-1641 was developed using the AD-1687, a multi-channel environmental data logger commercialized a few years previously, as the basis. As a result, on top of air flow, it can concurrently measure and record four other kinds of environmental data; namely, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and vibration. This capability of the device dramatically expands its scope of application and also makes it an invaluable tool in these modern days, in which managing and documenting multiple environmental parameters is becoming increasingly important in a wide variety of fields. Diverse array of possible applications Firstly, as originally intended, the AD-1641 is ideally suited to constantly monitor the wind speed of a containment enclosure, fume hood, laminar flow cabinet, etc. While other products that similarly measure low-velocity air flows often employ a rod-shaped sensor unfit for installation, the AD-1641’s air flow sensor can be easily mounted to any surface in any direction. Further, it can not only display but also “log” the measured data for performance verification of the system at a later time. Additionally, the AD-1641 can alarm by buzzer as well as by display if the selected environmental value (air flow, temperature, humidity, or barometric pressure) has fallen outside the set upper and lower limits for the selected period of time (3 seconds, 10 seconds, or at once). This function is especially useful for ensuring the safety of containment systems. Secondly, since the performance of high-precision weighing instruments, notably microbalances, is highly susceptible to external disturbances such as drafts, vibrations, and temperature/ Thirdly, the AD-1641 can be used to create and/or study environments for nurturing delicate animals (e.g. laboratory mice) or plants (e.g. vegetation in greenhouses) Easy data management The AD-1641 can store up to 10,000 sets of environmental and weighing data with dates and times. This is roughly 100 days of continuous recording at 15-minute intervals (the interval time can be set between 1 second to 60 minutes). When the memory becomes full, the device either overwrites the oldest data (endless recording) or stops recording (one-time recording) as selected by the user. No special software is required to save the logged data to a PC, which quickly recognizes the AD-1641 as USB storage. The data, stored in CSV format, can be opened using common spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel, allowing for easy processing and graphing. The user can freely set an ID number of eight alphanumeric characters for each AD-1641 unit. The CSV files that the AD-1641 creates will include this ID number in the file names, which makes it much easier to sort data taken from different AD-1641 units. Alternatively, the AD-1641 can transfer environmental data (with or without weighing data) to a PC in real time instead of logging it on the device itself. Various display modes, useful features and accessories In primary data mode, it is possible to select two preferred items, such as air flow and temperature, to be displayed in large size separately for easier reading and monitoring. Further, in trend graph mode, the AD-1641 charts data on its display (for either all or two selected items) as it is measured so that the user can intuitively grasp chronological variations or spot any irregular changes (e.g. spikes). With the provided protective cover, the main unit of the AD-1641 becomes IP65 dust and water proof for use under tough conditions. It also absorbs impact shocks and can avoid breakage from falls as high as 1.5 m. While the AD-1641 can operate on batteries, A&D highly recommends the use of the optional AC adapter in order to completely eliminate the risk of recording failure due to the batteries running out, not to mention the cost and hassle of battery replacement.
