Outgoing CAOC President Brian Chase Lauds Organization's Accomplishments

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Nov. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- The Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) celebrated a number of significant victories and accomplishments this year that have made the organization "stronger than ever," outgoing president Brian D. Chase said during CAOC's annual dinner Nov. 7. Chase, senior partner and seasoned trial attorney at the Newport Beach personal injury law firm, will be succeeded by Elise R. Sanguinetti, a partner with Arias Sanguinetti Stable & Torrijos, LLP in Oakland.

Chase highlighted several wins for the CAOC in the last year including bills backed by the organization that Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law during the year. Chase pointed out that the plaintiffs' lawyer group has been successful in blocking legislation backed by business interests as well.

"We defeated over 20 anti-consumer bills," he said during his speech at the annual dinner. "Not a single (bill) we opposed even made it to the governor's desk."

CAOC is a professional organization made up of nearly 3,000 attorneys who represent plaintiffs seeking accountability from those who do wrong. CAOC members represent consumers who are injured or killed by defective products; individuals who suffer age, gender or race discrimination; families of those killed due to negligence or wrongdoing; individuals whose civil rights have been violated; and patients who have been harmed by the health care industry.

Chase said as plaintiffs' attorneys he and other members face much more powerful opponents such as big pharmacy companies, insurers or automakers who have access to high-powered legal defense teams. "Our duty as plaintiffs' attorneys is to give that much-needed voice to the little guy and power to those who have been harmed by negligence or wrongdoing. The civil justice system is often the last resort for consumers who have faced injustice."

CAOC maintains a vigilant presence in Sacramento and works with legislative advocates who fight to ensure that our courts remain accessible to all and help maintain a level playing field for consumers who are often underdogs compared to large corporations.

"I'm confident CAOC will continue to fight the good fight in the coming years," Chase said. "I will stand shoulder to shoulder with my colleagues to ensure consumers get the justice they rightfully deserve."

Brian Chase, a Pepperdine School of Law graduate, has litigated dozens of jury trials. To date, Bisnar Chase has collected over $250 million in settlements and verdicts. Chase obtained $24.7 million in an auto defect case for a client who was catastrophically injured in an accident that left her paralyzed. In March 2014, an appellate court upheld that $24.7 million verdict. In 2012, Chase was named the Consumer Attorney of the Year Award from CAOC. He is also Past President of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA). In 2014, Chase was named by OCTLA as Trial Lawyer of the Year in the "products liability" category.
