By: Saint-Gobain Seals The automation machine manufactures spring-energized seal designs ranging from radial seals (rod seals and piston seals) to Spring II seals that are composed of Saint-Gobain Seals’ proprietary Fluoroloy® materials. One of the very first batches of OmniSeal® seals made were for an industrial paint gun application with plans to create more for other industrial applications such as valves but also fuel pumps and EGR system for the automotive market. As one of 14 Saint-Gobain Seals global manufacturing sites, the Willich site has been in operation for almost one hundred years, being founded by Max Alfred Pampus in 1919, and one of the first importers of PTFE from the United States. In addition to making OmniSeal® seals, the Willich site is known for their design and manufacture of Marathon® valve diaphragms and Rulon® fluoropolymer products. Certified as USP Class VI compliant, Marathon® diaphragms are manufactured using premium PTFE or modified PTFE under Class 1000 cleanroom conditions and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) process and are used in chemical and food processing. The Rulon® product line includes a variety of high-performance bearings and components that have been used in a variety of areas: bogie on commuter trains, rear shock absorber on bicycles, jet engine thrust reverser and missile launch systems, and life science components on chemical analyzers and harmonic scalpel surgical tooling.
