PHOENIX - Dec. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Shade Projects is proud to present Beyond Place, the solo exhibition of Onna Jeanna Voellmer in Shade Gallery. Beyond Place showcases a selection of Voellmer’s mixed media paintings inspired by her time in nature and her extensive travels around the world. The idea of place is very important to the artist who sees it as both a literal location, as well as the human side of being about the culture and stories it contains. When asked about Beyond Place Voellmer, stated, “Place is something that gets deeply embedded in our consciousness, more like a dream that strings our memories together.“

“Utilizing acrylic paint, graphite, colored pencils, india ink and more, Voellmer creates mesmerizing paintings through a very organic and natural process that truly capture the simple and unique beauty of nature” states, Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse. The Sonoran Desert is where Voellmer calls home and where she creates all of her artwork serving as a vital source of inspiration, commenting "There is a flow to nature that you can feel if you let go that It is like dancing, where in that moment you lose yourself and the music takes over", says Voellmer. “This exhibition gives viewers the opportunity to experience the Sonoran Desert in a new way, seen through the eyes of the artist who captures the energy, colors, and vibrancy in her dazzling array of oil paintings”, says Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse.

Voellmer grew up in the Pacific Northwest and was traditionally trained in the arts receiving her Bachelors in Fine Arts in Sculpture and Painting in 2000 from Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, WA, focusing on organic and figurative forms in multiple media. She also holds a Bachelors Degree in Geography and a Masters of Science Degree in Soil and Water Science. She has exhibited her artwork nationally and her work is collected across the globe.  She has been featured in both local and national publications most recently in the Arizona Republic and Phoenix New Times.
