Follow on Google News | Simon Arnott appointed as new Musical Director of London City SingersSimon brings an impressive experience in barbershop singing to London City Singers, both as director and singer. He directed The University of Bristol Barbershop Singers Auditioned Ensemble (2010-2012), The University of Bristol Barbershop Singers Men’s Ensemble (2011-2012) and was the Associate Musical Director and bass section leader of the nine-time British men’s barbershop chorus champions, Great Western Chorus (2010-2015). In 2015, he started a new men’s barbershop chorus in London, Meantime Chorus. As a singer, Simon sings bass in Park Street, the 2014 National Barbershop Quartet Champion. On his appointment, he said “I’m honoured to have been appointed Music Director for London City Singers. I believe the chorus has a really exciting future ahead and thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of that journey.” Graduating with a degree of BA(hons) in Music, Simon brings a technical approach in sound production and vocal development for London City Singers. Hayley Nock, Team Coordinator, remarked “London City Singers has grown musically over the last two years and we’re keen to continue improving our vocal abilities. Simon is the perfect choice to lead our chorus to new levels of music-making through better understanding of sound production. We’re thrilled he’s accepted the post.” London City Singers is an all-women’s chorus singing a cappella four-part harmony music arranged in barbershop style. This not-for-profit group was formed in 2007 and is based in City of London, currently with 25 members. It is an accredited chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organisation of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance.
