MIAMI - Jan. 15, 2016 - PRLog -- Leonard Kalman, M.D., joins the executive leadership of Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida as deputy medical director and chief clinical officer. Dr. Kalman plays a critical role in supporting the overall mission and vision of the Cancer Institute, and in defining its clinical components. He is involved in the recruitment of faculty and staff, and is working with the operational team to create a multidisciplinary model of care combined with an unsurpassed patient experience.

Following the completion of his medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in 1982, Dr. Kalman became a practicing community medical oncologist, and joined the staffs of Baptist Hospital and South Miami Hospital. As the practice grew under his leadership, he eventually served as the Chairman of the Board of Managers of what became Advanced Medical Specialties (AMS), a large diversified oncology practice in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. As chairman, he led AMS’ strategic planning, quality and growth initiatives. As of December 2014, the physicians and employees of AMS joined Baptist Health as the founding oncologists of Miami Cancer Institute.

“Dr. Kalman is a respected and proven leader and an accomplished clinician. His leadership of Miami Cancer Institute and his passion for multidisciplinary, patient-centered care are key pillars of the Cancer Institute’s mission,” said Wayne Brackin, Baptist Health executive vice president and chief operating officer. “His expertise in critical areas of cancer care management strengthens our commitment to clinical and service excellence.”

In addition to his leadership role within Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Kalman, committed to value-based cancer care, also serves on the Board of Managers of the Baptist Health Quality Network, a collaboration between Baptist Health and the finest doctors throughout the region. The Network is designed to improve access to quality healthcare throughout south Florida.
