On Women's History Month, lost history of feminist art movement recognized as controversial exhibit opens March 31 for first time in 35 years

As presidential campaign brings new attention to the history of feminism and women’s art, Betty Friedan, Bella Abzug and other women's heroes are portrayed at Rowan University West Art Gallery in a controversial 1970's PS1 exhibit conceived by artist Ilise Greenstein and created by 13 artists including Greenstein, Alice Neel. Sylviia Sleigh, Martha Edelheit. Andrew Hottle's book The Sister Chapel details. Exhibit is free and open to public. Previews for media start March 22/.

GLASSBORO, N.J. - March 3, 2016 - PRLog -- “A feminist view of creation.” — New York Times review (1978)

The Sister Chapel, the historic collaborative installation conceived by artist Ilise Greenstein and created at the height of the 1970s women’s art movement, debuts. 12 bigger-than-life individual depictions of heroic female role models – from Joan of Arc to Betty Friedan – circle beneath Greenstein’s abstract ceiling. This feminist redefining of The Sistine Chapel was Initially installed at MOMA PS1 in 1978. The exhibit was the first of its kind.
