By: Catalina Petcov Ionica is an inspirational immigration story, describing Petcov's journey from her impoverished childhood in communist Romania to her now happy life in the United States. When asked why she decided to share her story, Petcov said, "I wanted others to realize that with hard work anything can be achieved. I also wanted others to realize that not all immigrants are bad for the country." Petcov and her husband are retired and living in Lebanon, Pa. They are active members of their church, maintain a very close relationship with their son, and enjoy spending their free time baking and gardening. About the Book: From a challenging childhood in communist Romania to a love-filled life in America, Catalina Petcov, called Ionica by her family, blazed her own path to freedom and a life of happiness. Growing up in rural, communist Romania, Ionica realized that, in order to escape poverty and create a better life for her family and herself, she had to leave the country she called home. With only $50 in her pocket, and no knowledge of the English language, she fled through Italy and came to America. Through hard work and dedication, she accomplished what she set out to do: make a better life for her family and herself. Ionica's story is one of triumph, of dedication, of love-and of the enduring power of the human spirit. Not only did she take the opportunities that life gave her; she also made opportunites for herself. Her bravery and never-give-up attitude prove that, with enough hard work, anything is possible.
