NEW YORK - April 20, 2016 - PRLog -- The City of New York has agreed to pay a Brooklyn man who was physically assauled by Department of Correction (DOC) Officers $85,000.00 to finally resolve his claims regarding the May, 2015 Incident. The Incident had occurred at the Anna M. Kross Center located at Rikers Island where pre-trial detainees are held, who are either remanded pending trial, or do not have the financial means to post bail that is set.

The Brooklyn man had alleged that while correction officers were conducting a search within the area where he was housed, some of the inmates in adjoining cells refused to comply with the officers' orders to strip and put on a gray jumpsuit to help facilitate the search. Although the Plaintiff in the lawsuit complied with the officers' orders, he was nonetheless maced and attacked, eventually being punched and kicked in the face by the officers. The attack resulted in the man who sued the City suffering an orbital eye fracture to his left eye, which required surgery and the insertion of hardware, including metal plates. He was subsequently kept at Bellevue Hospital for four (4) days and thereafter transported to North Infirmary Command within the Rikers Island complex. The settlement finally resolves the man's claims concerning the vicious assault.
