ROCHESTER, N.Y. - May 31, 2016 - PRLog -- HARBEC proudly announces that it has won a 2016 Energy Management Insight Award from the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), a high-level global forum that promotes policies and programs to advance clean energy.

HARBEC is one of 32 facilities in 19 countries to receive this award in 2016. The Energy Management Insight Award is part of the CEM Energy Management Leadership Award program. This program is managed by CEM's Energy Management Working Group (EMWG), which includes representatives from Australia, Canada, Chile, China, the European Commission, Finland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, and the United States.

HARBEC earned the award for producing a high-quality case study to share insights on the process and benefits of setting up an energy management system certified to the global ISO 50001 standard. The award will be formally announced at the annual CEM meeting in San Francisco, California, on the 2nd of June.

Bob Bechtold, President of HARBEC stated, "We are grateful to be recognized with a 2016 Energy Management Insights Award from CEM. Achieving superior energy performance is all about having a disciplined process for continuous improvement. In sharing our energy journey through the efforts of the CEM, it is our hope that others can learn from HARBEC's experience."

HARBEC's Energy Manager Jeff Eisenhauer further noted, "HARBEC's experience implementing the energy management system (EnMS) was invaluable. It provided us with a data-driven disciplined approach to see where we can have the greatest impact on our bottom-line. Further, it's opened our eyes to a whole world of eco-economic potential."

HARBEC's case study is available on the CEM websiteas an inspiration and resource for other organizations interested in achieving significant and enduring energy and cost savings.

In its case study, HARBEC describes key aspects of its ISO 50001-certified energy management system (http://www.harbec.com/energy/) and identifies resulting benefits, including the following:

·         16.5% improvement in energy performance over 3 years

·         $52,000 annual energy cost savings representing a 2.4 year payback period

·         Achieving Carbon-Neutrality

·         Reinforcing its eco-conscious business culture

·         Putting a process-and-performance based discipline in place for continuously driving resource efficiency and process improvements

The ISO 50001 standard is a framework to help companies manage and continually improve their energy performance and realize cost and emission reductions. Regardless of a company's starting point, size, or sector, this framework helps achieve energy and cost savings year after year. ISO 50001 is a product of international collaboration, drawing on best practices from over 50 countries and demonstrating impressive savings among the 12,000 early adopters. The standard is proven to be business-friendly, globally relevant, and transformational, as it embeds best practices into any organization and provides a global benchmark for climate and clean energy action.
