Follow on Google News | Rembrandt Quiballo Brings "New Myths" to Bokeh GalleryBy: the monOrchid "Quiballo's work explores mass media and its effects on social and political history and lives utilizing imagery to create evocative works of art", states Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse. "My work attempts to subvert this prevailing apparatus by using components from mass media to critique and construct new myths", says Quiballo. He goes on to say, "Furthermore, I use instances of compression artifacts found in digital media as a point of intervention, where the immaculate façade of high definition media disintegrates and exposes instability in the seemingly constant stream. " Quiballo was formally trained in the arts receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Photography University of Arizona. He went on to receive his Masters of Fine Arts in Photography from Arizona State University in 2012. When asked about his work Quiballo stated "My work focuses on forms of mediation that are occurring through the representation of history, amidst a culture indoctrinated wholly through mass visual mediums." Quiballo was recently awarded the prestigious Contemporary Forum Award and Artist Grant giving him the incredible opportunity of exhibiting his work at the Phoenix Art Museum this past summer. He has exhibited at a variety of galleries across the valley including Eye Lounge Gallery, Shemer Art Center, Tilt Gallery, and Tucson Museum of Art, just to name few. His artwork has been featured in numerous publications both online and in print including Arizona Republic, The Arts Beacon, Phoenix New Times, Superstition Review, and Tucson Weekly and many more. The monOrchid and Shade Projects curator, Nicole Royse will host the Opening Reception on First Friday, September 2nd, 2016 from 6-10pm. The Closing Reception will take place on Friday, September 16th, 2016 from 6-9pm and the evening will offer an intimate event with the artist, Rembrandt Quiballo and Curator, Nicole Royse.
