HTS Codes Covered by Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - March 22, 2018 - PRLog -- "Tariff: A tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports." On March 9, 2018, declarations were signed by President Trump to apply a 25% and 10% tariff respectively to steel and aluminum  imports. Canada and Mexico are currently excluded from these tariffs – awaiting a NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) renegotiation.

These tariffs will be effective Friday, March 23, 2018 under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 and are largely weighted on raw material. These tariffs conjunctionally compound with the existing duty rate and apply to goods under these HTS Codes:

Steel articles are defined as:

·         7206.10 through 7216.50 – iron or non-alloy steel in ingots or other primary forms, semi-finished products, flat-rolled products, bars and rods, and angels/shapes/sections excluding cold-formed and fold-finished from flat-rolled products

·         7216.99 through 7301.10 – angles/shapes/sections, wire, sheets, and stainless steel and other allot steel material

·         7302.10 – Railway and Tramway track rails

·         7302.40 through 7302.90

·         7304.10 through 7306.90 – non-cast iron tubes, pipes, and hollow profiles

Aluminum articles are defined as:

·         7601 – unwrought aluminum

·         7604 – aluminum bars, rods and profiles

·         7605 – aluminum wire

·         7606 & 7607 – aluminum plate, sheet, strip and foil (flat rolled products)

·         7608 & 7609 – aluminum tubes and popes and tube and pope fitting

·         7616.99.51.60 & 7616.99.51.70 – aluminum castings and forgings
