Hawaii PhD Student Named "Student Entrepreneur of the Year" at the University of London

Michael Edward Walsh is the winner of the annual volunteer service award by SOAS Career Services

GENEVA - May 3, 2018 - PRLog -- On 2 May 2018, SOAS Careers Service hosted the "Make a Difference Awards (2018)" at the University of London.

The annual event celebrated the achievements and impact of students through volunteering and enterprise activities.

This year, Michael Edward Walsh won the annual award for student entrepreneurship.

A former resident of the Hawaiian Islands, Mr. Walsh is the founder of the Islands Society and a mapping volunteer at the Red Cross.

Previously recognized as a "Person to Watch Who Wants to Change the World" by the United Nations Foundation, Mr. Walsh was selected for his work to help women and youth from island communities realize their full potential on the world stage.

After receiving the award, Mr. Walsh shared that he hopes to pursue a career at the Red Cross, SwissRe, Nestlé, Novartis, UBS, FIFA, or the IOC when he completes his doctoral studies on African politics.

In the meantime, Mr. Walsh said that he is working to hand over day-to-day management of his volunteer activities to a new generation of young leaders on foreign affairs.
