Costa Rica Meadery Wins Gold Medal at Mazer Cup International 2019

SANTA BARBARA, Costa Rica - March 17, 2019 - PRLog -- Costa Rica Meadery, which produces artisanal mead (honey wine), in Santa Barbara de Heredia, Costa Rica, won a gold medal at the Mazer Cup International 2019, the largest commercial mead competition in the world.  The award ceremony was held on March 16, 2019 in Broomfield, Colorado, USA.

Costa Rica Meadery received the gold medal in the Varietal – Dry Category for Et Tu Brute, a dry, sparkling mead (13% ABV) fermented with honey from the Botarama (Vochysia Ferruginea) tree, which produces a unique, somewhat bitter honey.

The Mazer Cup competition is produced and operated by mead-lovers and enthusiasts who want to see mead restored to its rightful place as a mainstream beverage everyone can enjoy. Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages and recently has experienced a resurgence in popularity worldwide. There were over 350 commercial entries, including entries from well-known meaderies like Superstition Meadery, Moonlight Meadery, and Melovino Meadery.  Gold (first), silver (second) and bronze (third) medals are awarded to the best meads in each category.

"For a while now I've been wanting to make a great dry mead using the unique bitter honey from the central pacific tropical forest of Costa Rica. Et Tu Brute is just that! A fantastic dry sparkling mead from Costa Rica," said Mazer (meadmaker) and co-owner Alejandra Araya.
