Antique English Sterling Silver Classical Column Tankard Horse Race Trophy

NEW YORK - April 9, 2019 - PRLog -- Victorian sterling silver horse racing tankard trophy in form of Classical column. Made in London in 1861. Shaft on concave case. S-scroll handle with graduated beading, and domed and raised cover with open thumb rest and large u-spout. Fluting and pointille. Cover finial is cast figure of mounted jockey. Two scrolled cartouches surrounded by fish scale and leafy scrolls. One engraved: Croston / Longton Cup / April 3rd, 1862. The other engraved: Merrimar. Gilt-washed interior. Fully marked including maker's initials AGP. Excellent condition with good patina.

Overall dimensions: H 16 1/4 x W 13 1/4 x D 9 in. Weight: 95 troy ounces. #BS123
