Flagler Sportfishing Club & CCA Florida STAR Present $5,000 Scholarship

PALM COAST, Fla. - Oct. 31, 2020 - PRLog -- The Flagler Sportfishing Club is pleased to announce that 8-year-old Luke Thomas is the winner of a $5,000 scholarship. Luke attends third grade at Old Kings Elementary School in Flagler Beach.

Luke won the Flagler County Youth Scholarship Division in the 6th annual CCA Florida STAR (http://www.ccaflstar.com/), presented by Yamaha, competition that kicked off on Memorial Day weekend.  The 108-day event offers over $500,000 in prizes, with $100,000 of this being in Youth Scholarships. Anglers of all ages and skill levels have the opportunity to win prizes such as a brand-new truck or boat, motor and trailer packages, scholarships and more.

"I had a lot of fun fishing with my mom," said Luke. "I'm pretty sure I caught more fish than her," Luke added. "It's a wonderful opportunity for these kids to win a scholarship, and the best part for me was spending quality time with Luke," added Luke's mom Deb Thomas.

CCA Florida STAR is the state's leading organization dedicated to marine fisheries conservation, education and advocacy. The STAR Youth Scholarship Division presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, offers $100,000 in scholarships: two $25,000 scholarships presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors and Realtree Fishing and ten $5,000 scholarships. This year, the Flagler Sportfishing Club (http://www.flaglersportfishingclub.com/) joined Coastal Conservation Association Florida, Beall's Stores Inc., Talk of The Town Restaurants, Southeast Environmental Solutions, Florida Sports Coast, Tailin Toads Apparel and the Plantation Inn Crystal River as a $5,000 presenter.
