Banning death penalty is a step in the right direction

LUSAKA, Zambia - Aug. 11, 2022 - PRLog -- After President Hakainde's announcement on death penalty abolishment, Dr. Rajan Mahtani came in to support by adding his voice to the cause. According to Dr. Rajan Mahtani, killing of convicts is not a solution for curbing corruption across the Zambian nation. These prisoners on death penalty are already living a life of dread, not knowing which day will be their last. At the same time, condition across majority of the Zambian prisons is extremely dangerous with cramped living conditions, lack of basic hygiene and safety as well as lack of improvement for the prisoners. Attempts towards releasing these prisoners after passing correctional programs are already under progress. Also, several of the Presidents have avoided death penalty in the past. As such, abolishment of this cruel law is a step in the right direction towards transformation and advancement of the Zambian criminal law. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has further stated that he will be providing legal and regulatory support to the Zambian President and the Zambian government via his company Prison Fellowship Zambia.
