PRLog -- The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, recently made an announcement on the occasion of Africa Day. He announced that he plans to abolish the death penalty law completely. This announcement has received widespread support from across Zambia as well as Africa.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia has extended his full support towards this decision and has stated that death penalty is an inhumane, degrading and cruel law. It is an archaic law that holds no significance in the present society. As such, the decision from the Zambian President is a step in the right direction.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani further stated that his company Prison Fellowship will provide full legal and regulatory support to the President's decision to ensure that it comes into reality soon. Dr. Rajan Mahtani further stated that the concept of death penalty is not only socially and morally wrong, but also religiously unethical. In social and moral terms, the condition of the Zambian prisoners has degraded significantly and as such, the prisoners are already living a difficult life, denied of even basic human dignity. As such, giving them death penalty makes no sense. In a similar manner, the Bible indicates that Jesus Christ atoned for the sin of all human beings. Also, only those individuals are allowed to take another life who have not sinned on earth. These aspects clearly indicate that death penalty holds no significance in Zambian law and it was the right announcement made by the Zambian President. When this announcement turns into actual law is the next big question to ask.
