PRLog -- After several years of avoidance and inaction, the criminal law of Zambia finally takes some action. This action was achieved as a result of the recent announcement made by Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, on the special occasion of Africa Day.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani recently gave an interview at the Mast Newspaper in which he praised the decision from the Zambian President and stated that the concept of death penalty is inhumane, degrading and cruel. Dr. Rajan Mahtani further stated that the concept of death penalty does not provide any solution for the Zambian government. Firstly, there are around 400 prisoners across Zambia awaiting death penalty trial and each of them are already living a life of punishment as they are not aware of the final day on this planet. Furthermore, the condition of many of the Zambian prisons is extremely unsafe and degrading with many of the prisoners even devoid of fundamental human rights and basic human dignity. As such, giving them capital punishment will not be of any help. As such, the decision from the Zambian President is a step in the right direction.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani further stated that his company Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide all forms of legal and regulatory support towards ensuring that this decision from the Zambian President becomes a reality soon.
