The City of Hawthorne Celebrates Black History Month

Special honorees include Congresswoman Maxine Waters and others.

HAWTHORNE, Calif. - Feb. 10, 2023 - PRLog -- The City of Hawthorne's Clerk Office will celebrate Black History Month in conjunction with the regularly scheduled bi-monthly food drive, which offers fruits and vegetables to the local community. On Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 9 am, in addition to the food drive, the City will honor Congresswoman Maxine Waters, State Senator Steven Bradford, Assemblymember Tina Mckinnor, and Supervisor Holly Mitchell.

"We are thrilled to celebrate Black History Month while giving back to this community. It is important for residents to know we are here and present," said Dayna Williams-Hunter, Hawthorne's newly elected City Clerk.

Hawthorne City Council members, city employees, and community leaders will be in attendance to celebrate with the community. Non-profit organizations, Our Commitment Inc. and Feed the Streets Cali (both 501c3 entities), will hand out socks and other essentials. The Hawthorne Police Department be present with the community truck. Other partners include South Bay Workforce Investment Board, and The Los Angeles Education Partnership's Early Head Start program. All food items are donated by The American Heart Association. (www.heart.org)
