ATLANTA - Aug. 3, 2023 - PRLog -- Atlanta, GA. Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan says in his RCR Wireless News column that the entire 9-1-1 Emergency Services system we have all counted on for our safety and security is in the middle of a major transformation. What it will look like is much different.

Yesterday, we only had a wire line phone on a wire line network. In those days it was easy to spot where the call was coming from and send help.

Today, things are very different. With the wireless networks, smartphones, the Internet, VoIP telephone calls and more, there is no there-there.

The increasing challenge is how do the emergency services know exactly where the call is coming from in order to send help quickly.

In addition, many new technologies do not yet have a way to connect to emergency services.

Increasingly, we connect over a wireless network, Wi-Fi or the Internet from a store, office or a coffee shop.

Keeping emergency services working quickly and easily is an ever increasing and expensive challenge for both networks and device makers.

The FCC is requiring every player to lay out a timeframe for how and when each company will comply with new emergency services mandates and guidelines.

This impacts carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, C-Spire, US Cellular, CenturyLink and countless other telephone, wireless and Internet providers like Xfinity, Spectrum and Altice.

Device makers as well like Apple with the iPhone, iPad and watch. Or Google with Android, or Samsung with Galaxy. Plus, countless others.

Some companies see this new and changing world as a growth opportunity.

Companies like Viiz Communications have built a database which can be used by these other companies, large and small to meet these new FCC requirements.

RapidSOS is a safety platform which helps providers offer emergency services.
