Earley Calls for End of Congressional Insider Trading

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - April 2, 2024 - PRLog -- Today Veteran and Republican Congressional candidate Joe Earley (R-WV2) called for an end to Congressional insider trading to restore people's faith in their elected officials.

"How many more stories do we need to see on Senator Bob "Goldbar" Menendez abusing his office and Hunter Biden selling access to his father?  Washington is corrupt!  Serving in office should be about public service not enriching oneself.  That's why I will support a ban on insider trading by requiring every member of Congress to put their personal finances into a blind trust," said Earley.

Earley believes that many Congressional members financially benefitted from COVID. During the 2020 elections, 302 members of Congress accepted campaign donations from pharmaceutical companies totaling $14 million.  Pfizer, who has developed one of the vaccines, has a PAC that donated to 228 members.  Worse yet, 48 members invested in Pfizer.

"Pharmaceuticals is just one industry that members have traded on. Taking money from pharmaceutical companies who are still pushing their vaccines is a major conflict of interest. Voting on mandates and funding while investing in these companies is unethical. By requiring members to put their money in a blind trust, we can stop them from benefiting from legislation they support or oppose.  Members should be voting for the people not financial gain," said Earley, who also supports term limits.

Earley will work to pass legislation requiring members of Congress to put their personal investments in a blind trust like the President.  He will also file a bill to prohibit campaign contributions from PACs and lobbyists on matters being considered by Congress 120 days before the vote and 120 days after the vote.  This will stop members from shaking down PACs for campaign contributions while critical legislation is being considered.

"Winning a Congressional seat should not be like winning the lottery.  Far too many members are getting rich off of their position.  It is time to end all the insider trading and restore people's faith in DC," said Earley.
