BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - April 23, 2024 - PRLog -- Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties has raised the walls on the first two homes in its new Carolina Cove neighborhood, a new affordable housing community being built in Bonita Springs.

Habitat staff and future homeowners volunteered alongside residents of the Pelican Landing and The Colony gated communities on March 27 to raise the first set of walls on two attached twin-villa homes. Once construction is complete, the neighborhood will provide 14 attached twin-villa homes, with each family unit featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The multi-family community was thoughtfully designed to help meet the critical need for decent, affordable housing in Bonita Springs.

"We are thrilled to begin raising the walls of this new neighborhood with the support of our wonderful homebuyers, sponsors and volunteers from neighboring communities," said Becky Lucas, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties. "Our families are eager to embark on this new housing model with us, and we are excited to partner with even more families as we work towards meeting the ongoing demand for affordable housing in Bonita Springs."

Carolina Cove is a 1.85-acre HOA-managed community situated off Carolina St., east of U.S. 41 and north of Bonita Beach Road. The new Habitat neighborhood is conveniently located near downtown Bonita Springs with easy access to businesses, banks, churches, a school, a library and LeeTran public transportation stops.

Since 1982, Habitat has partnered with nearly 1,800 families to help them achieve their dream of affordable homeownership. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes by completing more than 300 hours of sweat equity, in addition to attending financial education classes, paying $2,000 in closing costs and committing to pay a mortgage set at no more than 30% of their monthly income.
