Dec. 3, 2007 - PRLog -- It has been announced that an increasing number of broadband providers throughout the EU will be concentrating on improving the levels of security of their email services.
The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA)  recently published results after conducting surveys on security and anti-spam measures implemented by European ISPs.
Pascal Manzano of ENISA confirmed that more ISPs than ever are now focussing on combating security breaches, viruses and control of spam for their customers. Speaking on the Inbox Outbox email forum Manzano said: “When egress filtering is provided it doesn’t directly benefit that ISP’s customers but the other providers, so we’re seeing a trend towards acting for more community benefit.”
Other research by ENISA showed that almost 90% of ISPs are now offering spam filtering free of charge.
The new improvements are already making an influence in the UK. Following PlusNet’s proposal to team up with Postini to improve spam filtration, UK ISP provider Eclipse are the latest to announce successful anti-spam results following their new software installation developed by IronPort Systems.
Eclipse recently confirmed that it blocked 513 million spam e-mails during October, and claims that it is now able to protect customers against junk mail more effectively than ever before.
Ciaron Dunne from Broadband Genie advises users to check the security and anti-spam features of ISP providers: “If you are looking to switch broadband providers, or sign-up to a new provider shortly, take the time to check the security features that are provided with your package. Do some quick investigative work to see which additional extras will suit your best. Many providers offer packages that include free security software such as Norton Internet Security 3,0 – this would normally set you back almost £60. Good internet security software will be invaluable in preventing threats from hackers, unauthorised intruders and damaging viruses.”
