From 4th February the price of Vodafone’s Mobile Broadband tariffs will be cut by 50% to £15 per month during a promotional period. Its ‘Mobile Broadband 30 Day’ package, which allows customers to cancel their contract with 30 days notice will also be reduced from £30 to £20. If you’re interesting in bagging yourself some new equipment PC World is offering money off of a selection of laptops to new customers of 3’s mobile broadband service. To qualify for a new laptop subscribers must sign up to an 18-month subscription in order to receive £350 towards a new laptop chosen from a list of ten different models, including an Advent 9912, a Intel Celeron C530, 1GB RAM, 80GB drive. 3’s Mobile Broadband tariff costs £35 a month, with a 3GB download allowance. Meanwhile, Virgin Media has announced that it is to give customers on its 4Mbps downstream ‘L tier’ broadband service a free upgrade to a 10Mbps service this February. Announced on the eve of a high level Government symposium on “Superfast Broadband” it was revealed that the upgrade will be served region by region and will be completed by late summer. Following successful trials in Ashford, Folkstone and Dover, Virgin Media will also be introducing an upgrade programmed to a superfast 50Mb. Ciaron Dunne from Broadband Genie said: “The start of the year is always a peak time for ISPs to tempt customers with lower rate deals, new packages and generous bundle offers. However, it will always pay to take a step back and calculate how much your package will cost you in the long run.” For those interested in signing up for lengthy contracts Ciaron has some words of advice: “It’s worth paying particular attention to 18-month contracts. This is a long time to sign up to a broadband service, so it could save you problems in the future if you spend some time weighing up the pros and cons to ensure you’re bagging the best deal you can get.” Notes to editors Broadband Genie allows users to compare broadband online, and is part of Genie Group.
