Benefits of the Institute of Leadership and Management Qualifications - an Employer's Perspective.

An illustration of the benefits of using ILM’s comprehensive unit-based qualifications portfolio by looking at the experiences of companies that have used them as an integral part of their training and development strategies.

Feb. 27, 2008 - PRLog -- To illustrate the benefits of  using ILM’s comprehensive unit based qualifications portfolio we set out experiences from Companies that have used them as an integral part of their training and development strategies. They offer employers the flexibility to devise qualification-based training programmes to meet the exact skills needs of their management team.  Call of the Wild, utilising ILM’s portfolio, can provide a one-stop shop solution for organisations diverse leadership and management development requirements.

Not only can you choose  a programme from the existing set of UK national qualifications framework, such as  ILM Level 2 in team leading, but you may choose to develop staff through in-house training that is tailored to meet your specific organisational needs, systems and practices. Add value through the quality assurance and recognition of clients existing internal training provision through ILM Endorsed and Development programmes. This is one the main benefits in that you can use what’s already been prepared or adapt your own – flexibility is the keyword.

David Butterfield, DHL, Head of Learning and Development, Retail and Consumer Division

Responsible for the training needs of 20,000 staff

At DHL we employ 40,000 people in the UK. That figure covers first line managers right up to executive management level. What we’ve encouraged our managers to do is move away from theory and into a more coaching style of management. The DHL Effective Manager programme is designed to help every junior manager and duty manager within the business understand nine key management behaviours. We contacted ILM because we wanted our course recognized in the marketplace as something that had add value.

We regard the ILM as being the biggest and most prestigious management development body in the UK. When our managers go through the endorsed programme, they get a qualification that is recognised outside DHL.

Using ILM has led to tangible benefits:
-   Won a National Training Award for the Effective Manager Programme;
-   Confidence in management, morale and a sense of recognition have all risen;
-   Absenteeism is down by around 50%;
-   Staff turnover is down by around 755

I would definitely recommend using ILM endorsed awards.

Bob McKay, Christian Salvesen UK, Training Consultant

In charge of  management development and funded training for 2,000 staff

We feel there are tangible benefits to working with ILM accredited programmes. We have found substantial cost returns on implementing ILM courses – typically between a 60% and 100% return on cost overall.

The programmes offer a nice blend of practical and theory. At senior levels ILM qualifications are a very useful benchmarking tool. Overall , ILM gives us a very good bedrock for development. I’d certainly recommend ILM to other employers.

Call of the Wild are an Accredited Institute of Leadership and Management Centre. We can deliver a range of  specialist qualifications in the ILM portfolio to meet the development needs of leaders and managers at every level and across all industry sectors.
