Control Station Targets Process Optimization Needs of Power Industry

Alignment with Controller Tuning & Design LLC to Resell Control Station’s Award-Winning PID Optimization Solutions

March 19, 2008 - PRLog -- Control Station today announced the formation of a partnership with Controller Tuning & Design LLC (CTD) designed to better serve the process optimization needs of the Power Industry.  The Power Industry lies at the heart of both state and federal regulatory initiatives to reduce emissions and increase system reliability.  Through this partnership, Control Station and CTD will introduce process control solutions that address the industry’s unique needs.

“We are excited to collaborate with CTD and to extend the value of our process control solutions suite,” shared Dennis Nash, President of Control Station.  “CTD lends extensive subject matter expertise in power production and distribution processes.  Together we will deploy solutions that provide rapid, long-lasting ROI and that cater to the needs of the worldwide Power Industry.”

Led by seasoned professionals, CTD brings both extensive knowledge of the Power Industry and a proven track record in process optimization.  CTD’s core competency lies in the design, implementation, management and maintenance of complex industrial power generation systems.  The company was formed in 1982 and supports leading power producers, including Alliant, Calpine, El Paso Electric, NeuCo, San Miguel Electric Cooperative, and many others.

“Control Station possesses world-class process control solutions that fully complement our engineering services,” commented CTD President and Co-Founder, Chyrl Wensley.  “The array of technology enhancements and industry-specific training curriculum currently under development will meet the power industry’s need for easy-to-use diagnostic tools and proven optimization techniques.”

The partnership is consistent with Control Station’s strategy to extend its core competency in process control and to introduce industry-specific solutions.  Industry analysts have consistently noted that the Power Industry requires optimization in order to meet growing demand of ancillary services while controlling production-related costs and reducing emissions.  In partnership with CTD, Control Station will help power suppliers to achieve each of these business-critical objectives.

Addressing the anticipated skills shortage within the Power Industry is a central focus of the partnership.  A recent study released by Booz Allen Hamilton cited growing concern associated with the nation’s aging workforce.  The study found that approximately 50% of professional staff are between 40 and 50 years of age and rapidly approaching retirement.  The timeframe for developing fundamental operational knowledge and skills was estimated at three years, highlighting the need for skills development and training.

The partnership has begun development of an integrated process control training curriculum that is tailored to the Power Industry.  Control Station’s suite of Practical Process Control training workshops will be augmented through the addition of multiple new process simulations, including Boiler Drum Level Control and Super Heated Steam Temperature Control.  The integration of realistic process simulations will allow the partners to engage industry professionals in meaningful hands-on training engagements and to prepare them for success.
