April 16, 2008 - PRLog -- The Brody Scholarship will celebrate a major milestone when current scholars, alumni, friends and members of the Brody family gather on April 18 in Greenville to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the program.

Established in 1983, by the Brody family, the Brody Scholars Program honors J.S. “Sammy” Brody who along with his brother, Leo, was an early supporter of medical education in Eastern North Carolina. This prestigious award annually provides financial support for students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and leadership skills. In addition, students can partake in a summer enrichment program, mentoring and leadership training.

“The Brody Medical Scholars Program has been a tremendous gift to the Brody School of Medicine and the people of North Carolina,” stated Carole Novick, President of the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation and Associate Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences Development and Alumni Affairs. “For the past 25 years, the Brody Scholarship has been awarded to more than 100 medical students, most of which are now practicing physicians who live and work in North Carolina. We continue to be grateful to the Brody family and the tremendous support they are to our students and the communities we serve.”

The Brody Medical Scholarship, currently valued at $84,000 provides full tuition, fees and most living expenses for four years of medical school, allowing scholars to choose a medical specialty without the worry of debt after graduation.
