They have been producers of media and arts programs providing communications, entertainment and commerce for the urban markets since 1980. The team founded The Minnesota Black Music Awards in 1982 to recognize local and national Black Music artist and provide industry education and artist mentorship. The program presented more than 500 awards from 1984 through 1999 and helped to focus national and international attention and recognition to Minnesota’s Black Music scene. MBMA now a non-profit association continues to promote artist recognition, education and art advocacy programs. The couple owns and operates WRNB Cable and BMA Digital music channels. Launched in 1984, WRNB is Minnesota’s first twenty-four hour African American owned commercial Black Music station. The service broadcasts to over 500,000 cable subscribers throughout the thirteen county metros via Comcast cable systems. The service is a pioneer in cable delivered music service. In 1998 the team combined operations as The Urban Mass Media Group. The company produces weekly television programs as part of their Minority Business TV Network spotlighting urban business, health, lifestyles, community affairs and entertainment. The group host two web sites, www.BlackMusicAmerica.com and www.BossNetworks.com. The sites average 250,000 worldwide visitors monthly providing urban music, entertainment news, arts content, small business news, hosting, marketing and design services online. In 2005 the group launched its first national digital cable channel in Long Beach and Los Angeles County on Charter Communications. The Urban Mass Media Group focus is designed to provide multi-media cultural specific content in television, radio and broadband services. Our mission is to provide diversity in programming content through quality programs for our audience and clients locally and worldwide.
