Follow on Google News | Experience Modern Day Impressionism at a Special One-Woman Show at Vinings GalleryExclusive two-day Atlanta event with French artist Jaline Pol on Friday, September 12, 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, September 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. and on-going exhibition through October 11, 2008
By: McDonald Media Born in the flatlands of Northern France, Pol's artistic works are most influenced by the places she has lived and visited including her native France, Cameroon, New Caledonia, the Middle East and Bora Bora. She studied at the L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and has developed a signature style that is at once immediate and intense with bright, daring colors amid fluid and imaginative compositions. The rich red of the poppy flower, the striking green of abundant foliage and the sunny yellow of a summer meadow comprise her palette, and she notes: "that color has always been an inspiration." In 1979 while visiting Africa, she found herself swept up in the surrounding colors of that country. Irresistibly drawn to the multi-colored robes and wrappings of the African culture, she discovered batik and began working with oils. Some of her floral bouquet paintings are seemingly monochromatic as she experiments with various tones and shades of a color, highlighting and reinforcing each one through the 'contrast' with another nuance. Working exclusively with a palette knife, Pol works are rendered a three-dimensional relief, giving the illusion of painting in sculpture. She masters thick layers of paint to create the smallest to the largest of details, from a plant's leaf to a vast expanse of a meadow exploding in vibrant hues. The viewer is attracted to this tangible nature of her works and this often provokes a desire to reach out and grasp the flowers in her compositions. Inspired by the great masters of the Impressionist movement, Pol's own style has evolved over her 30-year career and it has developed into something quite distinctive. The Vinings Gallery events kick off a month-long exhibition and sale of Pol's oil paintings (through October 11, 2008). The artist will also unveil a special body of original works created especially for this Atlanta show. "Not only will collectors enjoy the chance to engage Pol and discuss her unique style of painting, but they will be the first to see the special collection she has painted just for this show," says Gary Handler, co-owner of Vinings Gallery. "This is a rare art event and one enthusiasts and collectors do not want to miss!" Vinings Gallery is a true original offering an extraordinary mix of nationally recognized and emerging artists and a passion and enthusiasm for great art that is contagious.
