In the Bag at the PGA Championship - The Favourite of the Favourites

Aug. 8, 2008 - PRLog -- With world number one Tiger Woods missing from the field, the tournament is as open as it has been for many years; bookies anticipate strong challenges from Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood.

The bookies favourite is Phil Mickelson with odds of 10/1.

Phil has had a respectable season with wins at the Crowne Plaza Invitational and Northern Trust Open this year; with three majors already to his name, he’ll be looking to make it a forth.

Phil will be playing Callaway golf clubs including the FT-5 driver with Tour 3-wood and Callaway X-Forged Irons (3-4). This year has seen Mickelson use prototype irons (5-PW) and X-Forged 50-, 55-, 60- and 64-degree wedges and finally an Odyssey White Hot XG prototype putter.

After recently defending his Open Championship title despite injury problems Padraig Harrington is certainly on form and looking likely to being a strong contender to lift the Wanamaker Trophy in Michigan on Sunday, 10th August.

With odds of 16/1 placing Harrington as second favourite, the Irishman prefers Wilson clubs in his bag – with the exception of a 3-wood, which he alternates between a TaylorMade and Callaway.

Harrington on his last outing used a Wilson Dd6+ driver, TaylorMade Burner 3-wood and Hybrid 5-wood; Wilson Staff Pi5 irons (5-PW) with 54- and 60-degree prototype wedges and an Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball blade putter can also be found in his golf bag.

Lee Westwood is the second European golfer to be in the running for this year’s title after a confident performance at the Bridgestone Invitational, bookies have placed odds of 20/1 for Westwood to win. As an ambassador for Ping golf clubs, Westwood uses a Ping G10 driver, woods and i10 Irons.  The Englishman also uses a Ping Tour-W wedge and Ping Rapture hybrid clubs (19-degree); Westwood also uses a G5i putter.
