With the new FAS SPrint, now available in the UK, Californian fruit and vegetable portion packer Fresno Produce has stepped-up productivity and to meet growing demand.  Fresno is supplying individual portion packs of fruit and vegetables to children in three neighbouring school districts, and gearing up for further growth.

“Schools are really interested in providing healthy alternatives to snack foods,” says Fresno owner David Miller. “The FAS SPrint bagger gives a great deal of flexibility to change quickly from fruits to vegetables without hurting production.”

According to David Miller, it also helps that the FAS SPrint can be washed down at the end of a shift to meet the sanitary requirements of the operation.  

FAS SPrint is making it possible for Fresno to bag and pack 30,000 units a day with a team of just three operators.  Before Fresno invested in the new Automated Packaging System bagger, it packed into Ziploc® bags with an operation involving up to 20 employees.

Fresno’s FAS SPrint bags over two million portions of fruits and vegetables a year, operating at 70 bags per minute, although it can pack up to 100 bags per minute.  The increase in capacity means Fresno is actively growing its business, bagging portion packs of sliced oranges, melon, grapes, strawberries, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumbers, courgette, carrots and celery.

FAS SPrint is specifically designed for fresh and IQF food packaging applications, in environments which require daily washdown.  It offers high speed bagging with a wide loading area of multiple, pre-opened bags for hand load or fully automatic operations.
