Boston Tea Party files presidential slate in Florida

America's new libertarian political alternative submitted elector designations Friday to place its presidential ticket on Florida's November ballot.

Aug. 29, 2008 - PRLog -- Tallahassee -- Florida's libertarian voters received representation in this November's presidential election today as the Boston Tea Party filed paperwork to put its slate on the ballot.

BTP representatives presented the names of 27 electors and 19 alternates, pledged to support Charles Jay of Hollywood for President and John Wayne Smith of Leesburg for Vice-President, to the Secretary of State this afternoon.

The Boston Tea Party, founded in 2006, was recognized as an organized party in Florida in July. Its one-sentence platform summarizes a libertarian approach to politics: "The Boston Tea Party supports reducing the size, scope and power of government at all levels and on all issues, and opposes increasing the size, scope and power of government at any level, for any purpose."

The party's ticket is already on the ballot in Colorado, and submitted petition signatures and electors in Tennessee earlier this month. Efforts are also ongoing to secure ballot access in other states.
