Last year’s tournament, with more than 80 participants, raised nearly $6,000 which the Company donated to Laura’s Room at Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC. For eight years, Marlo Furniture has invited employees, vendors and suppliers to its Charity Golf Tournament. “It’s a way for the Marlo family to come together with those who support us throughout the year,” explained Jim Graf, Inventory Control Manager and organizer of the golf event. “We don’t discuss work. It’s just a time to get to know one another better while contributing to a great cause.” Children’s Hospital has been the charity recipient of the tournament in years past. For the last two years, Marlo has designated the funds to Laura’s Room, a teen-only recreation room at the hospital. Laura’s Room was created in memory of Laura Gale Nerenberg, a local women devoted to helping children grapple with the challenges of illness, who died of complications of Juvenile Diabetes in 1996 at age 31. Proceeds from the 2008 Marlo Charity Golf Tournament will once again benefit Laura’s Room. Marlo Furniture is a family-owned business that started in 1955 with a single store in downtown Washington, DC. Today, Marlo is the Washington area’s largest furniture retailer with four showrooms located around the Beltway in Alexandria, Forestville, Laurel and Rockville. More than 1 million Washingtonians have bought their furniture at Marlo. - END - End
