By: Nancy O'Neill-Pencil Bugs Plus After three years in business, 12-year-old entrepreneur and creator of Pencil Bugs, Jason O’Neill, decided to expand with other products. Opening a Café Press store was the right opportunity. It gave O’Neill the flexibility and creativity to offer customers something new. There are many products to choose from at his store. Some of the current products available in the office/home category are mouse pads, wall clocks and coffee mugs. If you’re looking for something fun to wear, there are many styles of shirts for infants, children, and adults. Intimate apparel for men and women is an especially unique gift as the items are embellished with the Christmas Pencil Bugs, “Holly” and “Ivy”. O’Neill didn’t forget the family pets. Customers can purchase small and large pet bowls as well as t-shirts for their pooch. All products are available with either the Pencil Bugs logo or the eight colorful Pencil Bugs characters. O’Neill started his own business when he was only nine years old. Although he didn’t set out to become an entrepreneur, his simple idea of hand-making colorful bug-like pencil toppers turned into a successful enterprise. In January, 2008, O’Neill was named to a Forbes.com Top 10 List for Role Models 18 and Under. They identified him as one of the “Hot Role Models to Admire.” He has also received a 2006 Young Philanthropist Award for his charitable donations to help foster kids and was the youngest person ever to win the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2007. O’Neill strongly believes in giving back to the community and looks for ways he can help other kids by making a direct impact on their lives. One of his charitable projects is putting together gift/activity bags for children at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA. O’Neill enjoys speaking to schools and community organizations and encouraging other kids to become entrepreneurs. His best advice: “Give your ideas a try. You never know what might happen. It could be the next big thing.” For additional information, to buy original Pencil Bugs, or to schedule O'Neill for a speaking engagement, visit http://www.pencilbugs.com .
