Giolai Founder to Receive Mercy College First Annual Founders Award

Mercy college founders day award to individuals with significant contributions in the history of the college.
 
Oct. 27, 2008 - PRLog -- marks a special occasion for Mercy College, as alumni, faculty, staff and friends commemorate the beginning of a new College legacy. The 58th Annual Founders’ Day will be celebrated on the Dobbs Ferry campus of Mercy College beginning at 11:30 AM.

Pamela Minyard, Founder and Executive Director of “Giolai”, Girls Institute of Leadership and Integration, will receive the prestigious award in recognition of her generous spirit of support in meeting the needs of others, both within and outside the College community.  Giolai’s goal is to enhance the future for girls ages 11 to 18 who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Giolai helps girls to become responsible, independent and successful students who will mature into equally successful adults and members of their communities. “I am truly honored to be recognized for the work we doing for the girls in Westchester and the Bronx.  I hope we can continue to empower the many girls we connect within the Giolai program,” said Pamela Minyard.
Honors will also be given to Nicole Sheindlin, founder of “Her Honor”, Ann E. Grow, beloved faculty member and Mrs. Frank Lyon in honor of the Lyon’s vision in creating the “Daddy Short Legs” Scholarship Fund. Richard French, President of WRNN TV will give remarks.  Honoree Nicole Sheindlin adds, “it is truly an honor to be recognized by Mercy College.  Her Honor appreciates the overwhelming support of the community and Mercy College for recognizing the importance in programs such as this.”  

About the Organizations:

Giolai
Giolai (a Division of Tomorrow Leaders, Inc.) is a Westchester is based not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to enhancing the future for middle school girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Giolai programs are being delivered throughout Westchester and the Bronx in after-school settings to empower and educate girls, mostly from underserved communities.  The Giolai program runs in the New Rochelle, Yonkers, Mt. Vernon, and New York City School District and in the last three years has served over 500 girls in their after-school programs, workshops, and seminars.  Giolai's program specializes in three key areas: leadership and etiquette training, mentoring, and experiential learning. Her Honor
In an effort to support young women of Westchester County, “Her Honor” mentoring program seeks to foster self confidence in the workplace and everyday life.  This mentoring program pairs motivated high school juniors and seniors with dynamic female leaders. The women who volunteer to participate in the program as mentors have a passion for their work and community. The selected students are determined to further their education and pursue their goals.
