Oct. 30, 2008 - PRLog -- Volunteer Abroad in Honduras: Our programs in Honduras offer an unparalleled opportunity to discover one of the most captivating lands of Central America. Honduras is a safe, democratic country bordering the Caribbean Sea on the north coast and the Pacific Ocean on the south.

In Honduras volunteers have a chance to see ancient ruins from the Mayan Empire and explore the limitless eco-trips available from white water rafting to rain forest zip line adventures.

The country is an ecological wonder; covered in rain forests, cloud forests, mangroves and thick lush mountain ranges with pine and oak trees. For all its natural beauty, Honduras is one of the 10 poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, with almost 50% of the population living below the poverty line.

Recent years has seen a growing interest in ecotourism, especially along the coast, which is helping to boost some of the local economy.

Volunteering in Honduras will provide you the chance of a lifetime to explore this mysterious country while giving back to the community.

The Honduran people are known for their energetic attitude, love of festivals and colorful celebrations, folklore beliefs and the extensive use of coconut, in both sweet and savory foods, and even in soups.

The Honduran culture is a blend of Latin America and a multi-ethnic blend of Mestizo, Amerindian, Black and Caucasian. This mix of people influences all aspects of the culture each bringing a unique blend to society.

Our volunteer projects allow you to support the local children, at orphanages and primary schools, and work in a local hospital, HIV clinic or both. Volunteering with us an Gain a Broader View of the World.

Volunteering Abroad in La Ceiba Honduras: Our projects are located in La Ceiba, a picturesque town located on the northern coast of the Caribbean Sea. La Ceiba is well known as the gateway of Honduras. The city maintains a small town welcoming feel where the locals are generous and easy going. The area around the city is mountainous and lush with vegetation. La Ceiba is a young, lively town that beats to the rhythm of its Latin, Caribbean and Afro-Antillean culture.

La Ceiba offers a lot of charm and hospitality, as it still slow on the major tourist developments. With its close proximity to Pico Bonito Natural Park, marine reserves and wildlife refuge, it has the potential to develop into a major ecotourism spot in Central America. La Ceiba has many restaurants, small shops, swaying palms and colonial architecture dotting its main streets. La Ceiba is famous for its Carnival week, which takes place during the Month of May to celebrate the patron saint, San Isidro. This is without doubt the largest and most important celebration held regularly in Central America.

The wonderful climate and the hospitable people make La Ceiba a wonderful place to live and volunteer. Our programs provide you the chance to discover the wonders of Central America, while doing meaningful and rewarding community service work.
