Smith is a licensed clinical social worker and board certified fellow in psychotherapy who provides outstanding individual, marital and family psychotherapy from his private practice in Niles, Illinois.  Robert has more than three decades of experience as a clinician working with a broad spectrum of clients. His primary area of expertise is in stress and pain management, couples therapy, middle aged and senior adults, clinical hypnosis, and alcohol and substance abuse.  As a solution-focused therapist, Robert’s treatment approach enables clients to resolve both recent and long-term patterns. Drawing upon a variety of styles and techniques, and with sensitivity and compassion, he works with each client to build on their strengths, allowing for the achievement of life goals. Robert is well known and highly regarded for his constant professionalism and commendable record of achievement.  He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, the Academy of Certified Social Workers, the American Psychotherapy Association, the American Academy of Pain Management and the American Board of Addiction Examiners.  Additionally, Robert maintains professional affiliations with the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists and the Lutheran General Hospital Department of Psychiatry.  He has presented at numerous conferences and instructed at the graduate level.  Robert holds a master’s degree in social work from Washington University, a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and social services from Bradley University and is a graduate of Washington University School of Social Work in St. Louis, Missouri.  He maintains an active philanthropic profile and supports the Multiple Sclerosis Society as well as several other organizations that benefit medical research.  In his spare time, Robert enjoys reading, watching sports and family activities.
