Energy Island – Producing Sustainable Power And Fresh Water

Energy Island concepts, designs and projects will be presented on December 13th, Hong Kong Science and Technology Park

Nov. 25, 2008 - PRLog -- HONG KONG – Off a successful Asian debut at the US-China GreenTech Summit in Shanghai, Energy Island is moving ahead to round out its consortium of companies with financial and development partners in Southeast Asia, India, Oceania and the Pacific Islands. The platform features proven renewable energy resources integrated into a floating 'island' that can be located on or off coastal waters in most tropical areas around the world. At the heart of Energy Island is an open-cycle ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) plant which extracts heat from tropical ocean waters to drive a turbine. The by-product of this process is large-volumes of desalinated water – 1.2 million liters per day per megawatt of power produced.

"We have designed and can build modular ocean-based platforms that generate megawatts of emissions-free electricity and millions of liters of fresh, desalinated drinking water every day," said David Harris, managing director of UltraFuture. UltraFuture is promoting Energy Island as a sustainable, practical and forward-looking solution to some of the key challenges facing humanity. "We have an exceptional consortium of engineering firms and proven, cost-effective technologies. We are now beginning to engage partners to commission and build platforms in coastal waters in Asia and globally."

Mr. Harris will next present Energy Island to an audience of investors, entrepreneurs, researchers and academics at this year’s UltraFuture Conference December 13th at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. For more information, visit http://ultrafutureworld.com/ultrafuture-conference/.
