Today, he has announced a new effort to help non-violent offenders to turn their lives around and become productive contributing citizens, verses continuing the never-ending cycle of recidivism. "My call is for a renewed collaboration between State Department of Corrections and the Bureau of Prisons. In addition, a new collaboration with the State and National Bar Foundations. But most importantly a new call for passage of federal legislation not only to fund programs that help ex-offenders find jobs and housing but to make it illegal to discriminate against “non-violent” "I have created a Pilot Program that is of no cost to help non-violent offenders to rebuild their lives. In my many travels across America many non-profit organizations and corporations have asked me to create a program that they could use to help members of our society who have fallen through the cracks in rebuilding their lives and becoming successful. While there is no question that something must be done to help this population, but most importantly no program or service can be successful unless the program has a clear pattern of 'long term success' by those that have completed the program. Many programs boast success, but what I seek is not only that the program works but that the program turns out long term successes in the people who the program educates." The World Of Work pilot program that The Fred Brito Companies have created is comprehensive and results oriented. Key point would be how we are able to track the success of those who complete the program: The main focus is to provide the tools necessary to these people to be successful and to see a trend where people obtain employment and stay employed for long periods which would equate into long term success. Each time we take non-violent offenders and rebuild them from bottom up we also invest in their future, and in the end, these people move forward by getting off the public dole and become vibrant participants in the American dream, which we all strive for. Many of us who have made mistakes face considerable setbacks and live in a world of extreme judgments. Without a job and a place to live, non-violent ex-offenders run the risk of re-offending in order to survive. What is different in my program from other programs is that I am knowledgeable based on my own story, and at the same time I know what it takes to become successful if people apply themselves in order to obtain their goals. The challenge is that most people who have offended historically come from below middle class environments, lack of education and skills and many have some form of mental issue or addiction to some form of substances, which inhibits their success. That is the reality of what we face. I have also seen that the norms are changes as well and more and more are coming from upper middle class environments as well. "My plan takes these people who have been screened and identified as committed towards change and for a period of 12 weeks, I strip them down and rebuild their ability to think and use their minds with one focus in mind. To change and to turn the corner after a mistake in life. We focus on our own self inventory, who and what we are today and the potential applications utilizing what talents and skills we already possess into our daily lives and into the future." PHASE ONE: We focus on self inventory (analysis) and creating positive self-images. Communication and articulating with power and conviction. Logic Reasoning: Making right decisions based on the facts at hand and being pro-active by anticipating the pluses and minuses ahead. What is our role in society? We learn what these words mean in our everyday lives: Accountability, responsibility, cooperation, dependability, integrity, and character. We learn personal budgeting and financial integrity. We focus on leadership and social responsibility and community service. PHASE TWO: Preparing for the World of Work, job seeking skills, Due Diligence, The resume, The Cover Letter, The Oral interview. Dressing for success, and more training in communication skills and understanding body language and interpreting it to the best of your ability. PHASE THREE: Marketing your product: (You are the Product - and how to get your foot out there and make home runs. Tracking your success, and dealing with rejection and turning negatives into a positive. While at the same time, I have developed a state of the art program to educate potential employers of the merits and values of hiring a non-violent ex-offender. These two program work side by side. One cannot be successful without the other. One prepares the prospective employee and the other educates the potential employer. It is a process that has worked before in various parts of America and it is time to take it to the next level.
