Dec. 7, 2008 - PRLog -- Most people looking for background information on people usually search for free public records.  This is not because they are unaware of the existence of the professional search services but because free means they don’t have to pay anything.

Business owners look for information before employing a person at work and individuals do these searches before engaging the services of a nanny or a baby sitter at home.  Others do it for a hundred other reasons.

The free resources include the following:

Government offices – These offices are either the police departments, local courts or the statistic departments, where you can gain access to free public records.  The usual practice is to fill up a request form and gaining permission to go ahead with the search.  The time taken is usually days or weeks and in certain cases, it can be a month.

Community centers and public institutions – These are places where free public records are available.  It can be a local college, library, church or the town center.  They usually have archives of all the residents that have lived or currently living in the community.  Here, you will have to place a request.   There will be many records or microfilms you will have to go through.  It is time consuming and hard work.

Online databases – There are several websites offering this service online.  There are both free public records services and paid ones.  The free ones online are mostly not what they claim to be. Many of them ask the user to pay up once they sign up with them.   There are paid services that keep their databases updated at all times and are the best way if you are looking for immediate and accurate information.
