Americymru announces final competition list for the American Welsh Online Eisteddfod

Jan. 4, 2009 - PRLog -- American Welsh social networking site, Americymru has finalised the list of competition categories for its Left Coast ( Online ) Eisteddfod which will be held this year ( 2009 ). The winners will be announced at the Eisteddfod itself in Portland, Oregon on August 22nd.

Prominent artists and entertainers from Wales are expected to be present at the Eisteddfod later this year and organisers Ceri Shaw and Gaabriel Becket are looking forward to a high standard of entries in all the competition categories.The competition categories include the following:-

Poetry Competition Group

Student Essay Contest Group

Visual Image Competition

Short Story Submission Group

Tom Jones Impersonators Group!

Left Coast Eisteddfod - PIRATES Group!

Eisteddfod organiser Gaabriel Becket said:- " An Eisteddfod is a traditional form of talent competition in Wales dating back to the 12th century. In staging an American Welsh version of the Eisteddfod we have of course departed from the traditional format considerably. We think this is an excellent way of "branding" Wales in the USA and having some fun in the process. I just want to add that ALL competitions are open to both members and non-members of Americymru. We urge people to read the rules carefully before submitting since they are slightly different for members and non-members."

Americymru site creator Ceri Shaw said:- * Naturally Americymru is delighted to be associated with an initiative of this kind. Our main purpose is to promote Wales in the USA and provide a place where Americans of Welsh descent and ex-pats can network online with people in Wales. Its a sort of American Welsh friendship site. Basically anyone is welcome to join so long as they have some regard for or interest in Wales."
