PacketLight's CWDM/DWDM dark fiber connectivity solutions

Jan. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- PacketLight's CWDM/DWDM dark fiber connectivity solutions have long been raising the bar for user friendliness and ease of installation.  Now a further leap forward has been achieved to enable large scale installations to be centrally managed by an EMS tool.

In addition to the existing web-based management tool and using SNMP to manage the units through a third party management platform such as HP OpenView, IBM Tivoli and SNMPc, PacketLight customers can now manage the entire install base using PacketLight's centralized EMS solution.

PacketLight's EMS solution supports both the PL-400 and PL-1000 together with other RAD network elements. The EMS is a modular, client-server and scalable management system, capable of supporting at least 500 network elements and performing several client operations concurrently. It provides configuration and fault management capabilities together with advanced user management. The PacketLight EMS also has southbound SNMP interfacing to the network elements, together with northbound integration to a wider NMS using the CORBA protocol.  

Key Features

PacketLight's EMS performs all the necessary aspects of FCAPS, (Fault, Configuration, Accounting/Administration, Performance, Security), together with the centralized features described below:

   Tracking changes - any changes made on any unit is tracked and logged.
   Inventory database mgmt - full inventory of all network elements down to the optics.
   Alarms and trap handling – all alarms and faults can be seen from the central platform, making it easier to detect network, power or system faults.
   Software roll-outs – saving time is one of the EMS's key benefits, when new releases come available, it is essential that these are able to be rolled out seamlessly across the network.
   Configuration data upload and download – configuration files can be stored and deployed from a central location, simplifying network management and change-out procedures.
