Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall

Jan. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Twenty years ago in November 1989 the Berlin Wall fell and after 28 years Berlin was once again a free city. In celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall the capital of Germany is planning a range of events related to reunification of Germany and the changes in Berlin.

Through the year a great many exhibitions will be on offer, lectures and photo documentations which show life along the Berlin Wall, the separation of Germany and the changes within the city, the changes in the last 20 years. Under the topic “20 years of peaceful revolution” there will take place a number of political talks, an open air exhibition, concerts and much more besides.

The main event, the “Party of Freedom” will be held on the original date, the 9th November, next to the Brandenburg Gate, which comprised part of the inter-German border. With famous guests from all over the world, musicians, politicians, actors, citizens of the former German Democratic Republic on one side and citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany on the other side will celebrate a unique event. With the help of huge dominoes the Berlin Wall will fall again. The last domino in the line will cause a huge firework.

The year 2009 is dominated by the fall of the Berlin Wall. Still today we remember the events between 1961 and 1989, remember the victims and practices of the Cold War. Berlin has changed completely in the last 20 years. Berlin became a free city but will always be a city with many faces, a city with an unforgettable history.
